Ours is a poor country. A large number of students can not afford to buy books. Naturally they can not prosecute their studies properly. Again, one can not buy all the reference books needed. Herein lies the importance of “Book Banks”. A book bank in an educational institution caters to the needs of its students. They are immensely benefited.
The books to be kept there should be relevant to the studies of the students of a particular institution. Text books should be kept side by side with the reference books. Students may be asked to pay a certain amount of subscription per month. If the book banks are set up independently outside, the students are asked to keep a certain amount as deposit money.
Then the students may take prescribed number of books home and return after a certain period. It would be good if book banks are established in every school and college with funds made available by the government.
