Surya Sen is better known as “Masterda”. He was a great revolutionary. He was born on 18.10.1893 at Noapara in Chittagong. He had his B.A from Berhampur College. Then he became a teacher and worked for sometime. Soon he got in touch with the revolutionaries. He helped in organising the youth. However, in the meantime he took part in the Non-co-operation movement launched by Gandhiji.
Gradually he became an armed revolutionary. In 1924 he was arrested for attempted murder of infamous Teggart. Later he was released in 1928. Thereafter he planned and raided the armoury of Chittagong with 65 comrades. He was in hiding for about three years. Ultimately he was arrested on 16.2.1933. Then the inevitable happened. He was hanged to death by the British on 11January 1934.
Surya Sen changed into a Bengali independence activist who remembered for his bold raid on the British armoury in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh) in 1930.
